CMWP: Tashkent's Population Will Exceed 5 Million by 2050

Each person currently has 22.8 square meters of living space.

As of July 1, 2023, Tashkent's population approached 3 million people. The number of residents in the capital is expected to continue growing, according to the international consulting company Commonwealth Partnership Uzbekistan (CMWP).

As reported to Kursiv by the organization, the population of Tashkent is projected to reach 4 million by 2035 and 5.4 million by 2050. The company attributes this trend to rapid urbanization and the influx of workers from across Uzbekistan into the city's labor market.

The population density of Tashkent is already comparable to that of global cities such as London, Hong Kong, and Milan, with 68 people per hectare. However, Tashkent has a more evenly distributed population structure than other major cities.

A significant portion of Tashkent's population lives in private houses. The housing availability in Tashkent is currently 22.8 square meters per person.

CMWP noted that as the population grows, the issue of improving the quality of the housing stock in Tashkent will become more pressing. Highly qualified professionals will require quality housing.
